Mission Statement of the China-U.S. Center on
Medical Professionalism
Medical Professionalism means placing the
interests of patients first, conforming to
professional norms set by a self-regulating body,
and maintaining technical competence.
Professionalism is a contract between the medical
profession and society, a promise from the physician
community, to safeguard the health of population.
The China-U.S. Center on Medical Professionalism,
PUHSC, seeks to improve medical professionalism by
engaging different stakeholders. Currently, it seeks
to understand the intrinsic meaning and implications
of professionalism in the context of China.
The Center extracts diverse practices provided by
stakeholders in the aim of helping both physicians
and their community raise the sense of medical
professionalism, allowing the profession to fulfill
its promise to society, to improve the health of
population, and enhance the
doctor-patient-relationship.
The China-U.S. Center on Medical Professionalism,
PUHSC, seeks to collaborate and share with
colleagues from China, the United States, and other
countries, to construct a platform that will further
the development of medical professionalism. Our
activities include, but are not limited to, an
annual conference, workshops, funding research
projects, funding visiting scholars, and publishing
papers, books and newsletters.
